Getting started, answers to common questions, and what Logtrace can and cannot do.
Getting started
1. Open the app
Go to the App page. No sign-up, no account, no download. The tool runs entirely in your browser.
2. Paste your notes
Copy the raw material you gathered during an incident — Slack messages, log excerpts, terminal scrollback, timestamps, anything you scribbled. Paste it into the text area. The messier the better; the tool is built for fragmented, unstructured notes.
3. Generate the timeline
Click "Generate timeline" or press Ctrl+Enter. The parser looks for timestamps (HH:MM, HH:MM:SS, or ISO 8601) and groups untimed lines under the nearest prior timestamp as supporting context. Gaps of five minutes or more with no entries are shown as amber silent periods.
4. Export or review
Export the timeline as plain text, Markdown, or JSON using the buttons above the timeline. Close the tab when you are done — nothing is saved, nothing is stored.
Frequently asked questions
Does Logtrace send my data anywhere?
No. All processing happens in your browser using JavaScript. Your notes never leave your device. Logtrace has no server, no database, and no analytics. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
What timestamp formats are supported?
The parser accepts HH:MM, HH:MM:SS, and ISO 8601 (e.g. 2026-08-15T10:15:00Z). Lines without a recognised timestamp are attached as context notes under the nearest preceding timestamped line.
Is there a character limit?
The paste field accepts up to 10,000 characters. This covers most incident notes. If your raw material is longer, divide it into logical sections and paste them separately.
What are "gaps" in the timeline?
When there is a period of five minutes or more with no timestamped entries, the timeline marks that window as a gap — shown in amber with the duration and time range. Gaps are not errors; they are honest markers that the record is incomplete there. A postmortem that acknowledges silence is more trustworthy than one that fills the blanks with assumptions.
Can I save my timeline and come back to it?
Logtrace does not offer accounts, login, or server-side storage. You can export the timeline as text, Markdown, or JSON before closing the tab. There is no way to save it on Logtrace's servers because there are no servers.
Does Logtrace integrate with PagerDuty, Slack, Datadog, or other tools?
No. Logtrace does not connect to any external service. It reads what you paste and nothing more. It does not page anyone, send alerts, trigger automation, or fetch data from monitoring systems. It is a text formatter, not an incident response platform.
How do I get the Pro plan? Can I subscribe now?
The Pro plan ($6/month) will include Focus Mode — a cleaner view that dims everything except the timeline. However, payment processing has not been set up yet. The checkout form on the Pricing page is a demonstration of the intended flow. No real payments can be taken today.
Known limitations
- No server-side processing. The entire application runs in your browser. There is no API, no backend, and no way to process data outside the tab.
- No accounts or saved state. You cannot create a profile, save timelines, or retrieve past work. Export before closing the tab.
- No email, alerts, or notifications. Logtrace cannot send emails, reminders, digests, or scheduled reports. There is no mail system connected to this product.
- No integrations. Logtrace does not connect to PagerDuty, Slack, Datadog, GitHub, Jira, or any other tool. It formats pasted text only.
- 10,000-character limit. The paste area accepts up to 10,000 characters. Very long incident logs may need to be split into sections.
- Timestamp recognition is limited. The parser handles HH:MM, HH:MM:SS, and ISO 8601 formats. Relative timestamps ("5 min later"), custom formats, or dates without times are not recognised as timestamp anchors.
- Payment processing is not active. The Pro subscription ($6/month) and its checkout flow are a demonstration. No real payments can be processed.
- No legal entity. The operator has not registered a company or jurisdiction. Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are placeholders and are not legally binding.
How to contact us
Logtrace does not have a support email address because no mailbox has been set up for this product. An email address on the page would direct you to a destination that cannot receive mail, which is worse than stating plainly that email support is not yet available.
If you need to reach the operator, raise your issue through the channel by which you received this product — for example, a GitHub repository, an evaluation platform, or the team managing the deployment. The operator monitors those channels.
This gap — the absence of a contact email — is recorded as an open requirement for the owner to resolve.
